Writing is often thought of as an intellectual exercise and a solitary act that happens at a desk, our thoughts totally disconnected from the rest of our body. But without tapping into that mind-body connection, it’s unlikely that we’ll be able to find the means to express ourselves in a healthy, fully-developed way. Join us at Nautilus by Arlo for a yoga and writing workshop; this class will introduce writers to yoga and breathing techniques to “write from the center,” i.e. from the heart. Writing can produce anxiety, especially when we’re stuck. Through a mix of asanas (poses), breathing techniques, and mindfulness, participants will reflect on and experiment with their writing routines and habits, revise works-in-progress, and/or start new pieces in a safe space dedicated to making connections on and off the page. Students should bring a yoga mat as well as whatever they write with (laptop, journal). Readings and prompts will be provided by the teacher. Readings: excerpts from The Yamas & Niyamas, The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
